Hand Tile Fundraiser

Feb 25, 2014 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Let your inner artist shine and join the fun at the Hand Tile Fundraiser, hosted by Quench Your Palette and Stuart Ceramics, on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 to benefit the Jensen Beach Community Playground Project! Stop by Quench Your Palette located at 837 NE Jensen Beach Blvd, Jensen Beach, Fl 34957 anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to paint a hand tile that will become part of the new playground to be built at Jensen Beach Elementary (JBE). Guests will also enjoy refreshments and snacks, face painting, music and a variety of kids activities. This event is open to all ages and tiles cost $20 each.

As a bonus, Shakra's Deli is donating 10 percent of sales during the hand tile event on February 25 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. to the Jensen Beach Community Playground Project. Located in the same plaza as Quench Your Palette, be sure to stop in and grab some yummy dinner at a local favorite dining spot!

This is a great opportunity to have some fun and help raise funds for the new community playground, said Jill Richardson, playground general coordinator. Funds raised at the hand tile event and through Shakra's donation will bring us one step closer to meeting the financial goal of $300,000 to build a new playground for our kids at Jensen Beach Elementary. We've raised $145,000 so far, and still have a long way to go.

The existing playground at JBE is in desperate need of upgrades. Many of the original pieces, some of which are nearly 40-years-old, are falling apart due to time and increased usage by local children. A team of dedicated volunteers is working tirelessly to raise the necessary funds to give children the gift of play in a safe and educational environment. The Jensen Beach Community Playground Committee still needs to raise $155,000 by May 2014 to start construction on time.

The playground rendering, designed by Leathers & Associates, was created based on sketches submitted by Jensen Beach children depicting their dreams for the new play area. JBE is a hub school for Martin County's Autism Spectrum Disorder Unit. The playground design incorporates many features that meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations including wheelchair accessible groundcover, therapeutic swings, activity panels, accessible parallel bars and telephone systems. The custom play space will provide outlets that help correct developmental delays and play opportunities for children of all abilities.

The new playground, once constructed, will be open to the public after school hours and on the weekends. Located within walking and biking distance for most families in the Jensen Beach community, the new playground will provide a space for children to play safely.

If you can't make the hand tile event, there are plenty of other ways to help support the Jensen Beach Community Playground Project, explained Richardson. We are in need of financial support and volunteers. You can make a donation online, adopt playground components or purchase personalized fence pickets, bricks and hand tiles.
